Economic Stimulus – Revolutionizing Federal Water Project Funding
By John D. Freshman
The completed stimulus package has totally revolutionized the way in which Federal water projects will be funded in the United States. Across the Corps of Engineers, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Bureau of Reclamation, the long pattern of reducing funding amounts and restricting availability has been arrested. The clean water and safe drinking water program for the first time allow grants, forgive loans and waive local matching funds. The Corps of Engineers is put on an accelerated schedule and the Bureau of Reclamation funding is drastically increased with orders to accelerate projects.
With the pending completion of the FY09 appropriations bills for Energy, Water, Interior and the Environments as well as the beginning of the FY10 process, a whole new world has begun. Please contact us for more information regarding these matters.
